Emma Raducanu, the British tennis sensation, has dismissed speculations about a romantic relationship with Carlos Alcaraz, the five-time Grand Slam champion. This clarification came during a pre-Wimbledon press conference, where she also confirmed their participation in mixed doubles at the upcoming US Open.
The pair's recent training sessions together, including one just before Wimbledon 2025, fueled rumors about their relationship. Raducanu's presence cheering for Alcaraz at his semi-final match at the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club further intensified the speculation, leading to a direct question during the press conference.
When questioned about the dating rumors, Raducanu simply stated, "We're just good friends." As the reporter attempted to wrap up the topic, Raducanu playfully responded, "Way to wrap up."
The two tennis stars have been practicing together in anticipation of their mixed doubles debut at the US Open.
"It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian, just getting some volley practice ahead of New York. I'm really happy to be playing with him. We had a great time," Raducanu said.
She also revealed that it was Alcaraz who initiated the partnership. "Yes, he asked me. He asked me earlier on in the year, and I was very surprised, honored, and excited," she added.
Raducanu, who famously won the 2021 US Open against Leylah Fernandez, has faced challenges in maintaining consistency since her breakthrough victory. Her recent appearance at the Eastbourne Open concluded with a loss to Maya Joint before the quarter-finals.
Alcaraz, on the other hand, has continued his ascent in the tennis world since his 2022 US Open win, accumulating several major titles.
Following his recent victory at the HSBC Championships, Alcaraz is preparing to begin his Wimbledon 2025 campaign against Fabio Fognini of Italy in the first round.
The upcoming US Open will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Raducanu and Alcaraz's careers as they team up for mixed doubles.
