Rishabh Pant's exuberant celebration after scoring a century in the first Test against England has drawn a reaction from an unexpected source: Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the surgeon who treated him following his serious car accident in December 2022.
Rishabh Pant celebrates a century with a cartwheel during the Test match against England.
Pant marked his century with a somersault, a move that has since gone viral. Dr. Pardiwala, speaking to The Telegraph, offered his assessment: "Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that’s why he’s been doing those somersaults of late. It’s a well-practised and perfected move — unnecessary though!"
Pant's return to cricket has been remarkable considering the severity of his injuries sustained in the car crash. On December 30, 2022, while driving, he lost control of his vehicle, resulting in a crash that sidelined him for an extended period.
Despite the challenges, Pant showcased his talent against England, scoring a blistering 134 in the first innings and following it up with 118 in the second. However, his efforts weren't enough to prevent India from losing the match by five wickets while defending a target of 371.
Rishabh Pant's record in England highlights his ability to perform under pressure. In 10 Tests, he has scored 808 runs at an average of 42.52, including four centuries and two half-centuries, with a best of 146.
