India is determined to bounce back after suffering a defeat in the opening Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England. While England currently leads the five-match series 1-0, the Indian team is focusing on managing Jasprit Bumrah's workload and capitalizing on opportunities.
Prasidh Krishna and Jasprit Bumrah share insights during a practice session.
Despite the loss, India's head coach Gautam Gambhir affirmed that Bumrah will participate in only three of the five Tests, a decision finalized prior to the series. "We need to manage his workload," Gambhir stated, emphasizing that the current scoreline does not alter their strategy.
In Bumrah's absence, fellow pacer Prasidh Krishna sees a valuable chance to step up. "We are learning from each other, no matter who's there or who's around," Prasidh commented, highlighting the team's collaborative environment. He added that Bumrah continues to guide and support the team.
Prasidh emphasized the importance of experience and the excitement within the team. "Everybody is here. Siraj has played a lot of games... it's a great experience and an opportunity. That’s the way we look at it."
England's recent victory was notable as they successfully chased down a target of 300-plus runs despite conceding five individual centuries. While India scored 835 runs in the match, batting collapses proved costly.
Addressing any concerns about the team's morale, Prasidh affirmed, "The dressing room is still positive, happy, and very, very motivated." He further elaborated on the team's proactive approach and unwavering belief throughout the game. "We made sure that until the last run was scored, we were still fighting and making them work hard for it."
While Bumrah impressed with five wickets in the first innings, the supporting bowlers, including Prasidh, faced challenges. Prasidh acknowledged his performance, stating, "I definitely want to bring that number down – to the best I can. And I think I’m learning as well. It’s on me – I can’t say anything else. It’s my responsibility to get better, and that’s what I’m trying."
Prasidh reflected on his bowling strategy, noting, "The lengths and lines I bowled weren’t perfect, to be honest, most of the time." However, he emphasized his commitment to taking wickets, even if it meant conceding runs.
Addressing his bowling lengths, he said, "Ideally, six to eight meters is what I was aiming for." He admitted to not consistently hitting his desired lengths, especially in the first innings.
Regarding Shubman Gill's captaincy, Prasidh praised his leadership. "He rotated the bowlers, made sure everyone got enough breaks, and brought bowlers in at the right times... And knowing him, he created a very good atmosphere around the team."
Prasidh concluded by highlighting the team's dedication to improvement. "As lower-order batsmen, we are definitely working on our game... It’s also about putting your mind into it – making sure you trust yourself, trust the skill you have, and stay at the crease a little longer."
